The Financial Accountant is part of the Corporate Accounting Finance team, responsible for ensuring the efficient processing of financial transactions and reporting across the EMEA region. As part of this role, you will manage all aspects of the financial close process including journal entries, preparing balance sheet reconciliations, and performing variance analysis for P&L and balance sheet. This role will report into the EMEA Accounting Manager and will be based in London. The successful candidate will be very experienced in accounting preferably both under US GAAP and local reporting regulations, having previously worked under a SOX-compliant internal controls framework. At least 2-5 years post professional qualification experience within the Financial Services and previous experience within a U.S.-based multinational company are strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Specialist responsible for preparing, managing, and controlling journal entries, balance sheets, reconciliations, and other relevant accounting matters in compliance with US GAAP and local GAAP.
- Coordinate and liaise with the Shared Service centre (BSO) to ensure timely processing of Accounts Payables, Accounts Receivables, Billings, and Intercompany Recharging prior to month end close.
- Review end to end controls, ensure controls are robust and coordinate with Financial Risk Management (FRM) to implement and monitor an effective SOX compliant control environment across EMEA.
- Actively communicate with counterparties based across the clients US and EMEA, accruing the monthly costs, preparing quarterly intercompany invoice recharges accurately and on a timely basis, providing all the necessary support for local reporting purposes.
- Analyse and report monthly costs on a statutory and functional unit basis conducting variance analysis to identify cost drivers and seek efficiencies by identifying opportunities for automation and cost savings.
- Prepare monthly reconciliations to ensure all balances are reviewed and any material variances are investigated and resolved on a timely basis each period end.
- Perform variance analysis of the P&L and Balance Sheet and provide detailed commentary of key balances and movements.
- Responsible for the project management and delivery for annual financial statements including all statutory disclosures in accordance with relevant local GAAP and the clients accounting policies.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors, tax advisors, and third-party service providers. Liaise with the Global finance team to resolve any financial accounting activities and questions on a timely basis, providing accounting data input to requests from
- Management and FP&A monthly.
- Support key the clients international-wide projects, such as intercompany policy enhancements, maintaining invoice approval workflow and aligning control processes with the global balance sheet program.
Key Skills/Experience
- Qualified ACA or ACCA accountant with 2-5 years post qualification experience ideally previously worked in US global matrix environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with relevant stakeholders.
- Excellent numeracy and analytical skills, proficient at using Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to resolve issues with own initiative and manage deliverables.
- Positive mindset with a drive to continually improve and challenge existing processes.
